I use one of those microsoft ergonomic keyboards -- they are wonderful. One tiny bit of water though and they never work again. They are very bad that way.
If it is really dirty I recommend using a fireplace bellows or can of compressed air to blow the dirt through (it will collect on the bottom) and then use q-tips to clean the thing.
I've got one of those - the 4000 model. Daughter's friend knocked over his drink this week onto my keyboard and despite me taking out a bunch of the keys and drying it off it appears to be fried. It lasted a few years though, so I guess I can't complain.
You underlined that but didn't bold THAT???

I really need to clean out my g series. I am being lazy though....
It's so much easier if you go in the back (that's what she said). There are like three layers but it is all Philips screws and pretty simple. Once it is apart a pair of needle nose pliers and the keys pop right out. I'm guessing you'd break the keys if you tried popping them out from the front since they are clipped in. Then I soak/wash the keys and the drip trays and wipe down the top and put it all back together. Gotta be careful with the electronics but it is mostly in big pieces so not that big a deal.

I keep my keyboards way past their expiration date. I always buy them as soon as I notice possible trouble but then I never use them. I stay with the injured keyboard forever. I can't type an "F" sometimes? Ahhh oh well nothing that a "PH" can't solve in a pinch!

I read that part and immediately thought, "Who in the HELL has fireplace bellows?" but since it wasn't part of my train of thought I didn't emphasize it. Once again, AM to the rescue!!

Lastnight it was sort of a disaster when I wanted to call for help (swtor) at the east turret but my 'A' key wasn't working so I ended up typing, 'help est turret'. People naturally thought I meant west
