This thread begs the question: do the "women" of ACF use a funnel to get that much sand in their vagina or do they just slide around the beach like an angry Roomba? -deadcactus-

Your one misteak is in asking the incorrect question. You should be asking why shouldn't people be allowed to have a parade about their sexuality? That is how freedom works. -Rho, not a hypocritical libertarian.
People have been having a parade about their sexuality in San Francisco for decades, now. Rho
I went to it. I didn't see anything wrong with it. so why shouldn't they just carry on? nobody is forcing you to watch it. I even got to see some lesbians flaunting their boobs. shame on them! In a round about way, this kind of stuff does affect me. When some people find out Im gay they instantly think of the flaming homos that theyve seen in pride parades and either its a complete turn off for them and dont want to have anything to do with me or they stereotype all gay people into that one category and think that we are all like that.
Im not trying to say shame on them. If this were a different time and political climate then yeah sure it doesnt hurt anyone so more power to ya. We're already fighting an uphill battle for equality, Its kind of hard to go to Congress(or any formal/serious setting) and ask for equal treatment when you have the image of gay people running around like small children in a candy store while barely wearing any clothes in the minds of the people you are trying to convince. People just dont take you seriously, they think you are a joke.
This is the same reason that OWS gained no respect in the general population.
When it comes to swaying public opinion, image is everything.
Very true, the extremes at the pride parade, while they are certainly allowed to express themselves in any way they feel it in fact hurts the very thing they are parading for. When people for the most part only see "gay people" in such a way it creates an image and when the image is like those linked earlier it's not a good way to show your best side. The reason that many people don't know more about gay people is that they are generally "normal" people and interact in a "normal" way and never think about it. I feel the parades would be a lot more effective if people did it dressed as they are any other day, but that is just my opinion. It would certainly shut up people who complain. The military stuff I could care less about, it's showing affection for your S/O and I'm not a huge fan of PDA from anyone but I understand the relief they felt when they were finally able to without having to worry about losing their jobs/careers.

it also depends on your definition of "flaunting." To some people just seeing a gay couple kiss or hold hands in public is flaunting. To me thats not, thats just being "normal" like any other straight couple would do.
Now what they do at gay pride parades stripping down to their underwear and flying rainbow colored flags and streamers and crap like that can go stuff themselves. They give the gay community a bad name. Do you really need a parade to celebrate your sexuality?

While i think it's wonderful that this could even happen (DADT was such a freaking joke, good riddance...), i do agree with the guy who said about PDA's in uniform. If a straight couple would get a bollocking for doing something, so should a gay couple. Otherwise you're taking it to the other extreme and letting gay couples get away with stuff straight couples cant. Equality should be true equality, IMO.
I agree with NON and Sooz.
I don't think I've ever said that before.

I don't have a problem accepting that negative stereotypes are harmful. even stereotypes about math ability can influence performance on math tests- see stereotype threat.
the person that chooses to apply the stereotype is the real problem. it's a failure of categorical thinking. when we think in categories we tend to exaggerate the differences between categories and ignore the differences within groups. everyone should realize the limitations of categories and stereotypes in all aspects of life from sexuality to physics to business.
it doesn't make sense to tell people to change their behavior because other people are failing at thinking clearly.

And Rho, it's words like INSIST that make it clear you are a bigot. What he has been saying literally the whole time is "why shouldnt it be OK for gay people to be outgoing?" and you see that as INSISTING that gross gayness is EVERYWHERE and RUBBED in your face. You said something about assumptions? lol
And you seemed so good about going back and reading the thread. The insistence that this issue needs to be rubbed in our collective faces was exactly what he posted. No assuming necessary.
Your knickers seem to be in such a twist about this that you're making even less sense.

Oh you mean in the clearly over the top one? I was quoting you from something you said before he posted more than one word, and you are trying to say you were responding to what he said a few dozen posts later? Good critical thinking, bro.

yeah it totally is a sense of entitlement to feel entitled to kissing your SO in public without nasty/angry stares and people whispering behind your back while mothers scurry their children away from you while saying, "dont look at the two bad men!"

From a military member's perspective:
I take it none of you guys have observed a military homecoming before? These are military people coming home from a deployment. They've been away from their families/friends/loved ones anywhere from 4-24 months. The military's PDA rules are relaxed dramatically at these events. Wives literally jump on their husbands all the time and ram their tongues down each others throats. In this regard, it's obviously no different.
But the repeal of DADT is new, which makes seeing two dudes or two chicks making out at one of these things new. It's not these 2 people that are making a statement. It's not the gay people of the world making a statement. It's the media blowing this out of proportion to get a rise out of the simple-minded people of this world so they can make retarded threads on gaming messageboards like this one. It's all over the news and social media because we haven't really seen an image like this before. Big deal.
Go back to reading Harry Potter, watching Firefly, or playing a Star Wars game.
