Don't know if anyone remembers "Isn't $1,500 quite a bit for Christmas?" post, but come to find out my brother-in-law was writing himself checks out of my grandmother's checking book.
This isn't new. Starting in August, we had a hunch that my brother-in-law was stealing for as long as 2 years. For over 2 years we've had as little as $10 missing to as much as $700 missing at a time from the house. Of course, we thought about it but all we could do was scratch our heads and wonder because you wouldn't suspect a family member - well, in legality terms.
Even though we were catching-on to his thieving in August, we couldn't blatantly come out and tell him hes a thief - needed evidence - and it finally came in early January when he wrote a $400 check to himself out of my grandmother's checking book. My aunt saw it when she was doing my grandmother's finances.
Rewind to Christmas of 2010 (a little more than a year ago) and things are starting to make more sense. My brother-in-law got a $1,500 CASH bonus from work. My grandmother was missing $1,500 CASH she planned on giving to family & friends for Christmas. She was so upset that she was balling her eyes out while combing through her house for the cash. Wonder where it went?! (rhetorical question)
Fast-forward to now - my sister had a minor altercation with him for 2 weeks after she discovered he was stealing, but is now back with him. My brother-in-law sought therapy and his shrink made him believe that his thieving was to due to his childhood and depression. He stopped talking to his brothers because his shrink made him believe that his family were to blame. How disgusting is that? That made us even more pissed. He sent us all letters through the mail; we pissed on them and threw 'em out. He was able to reconcile with my grandmother because she doesn't want any fighting, period, but he will never be forgiven by my mother, brother, sister, step-dad, and myself.
There's more to the story, but that's the gist of it! We sure do get the winners!! hahaha
