Yeah we didn't need cell phones back then. My dad would shout our names and it was like hearing distant thunder. Even if we didn't hear it, our friends would and tell us.
Yeah. VERY common to hear, from one of us to another when playing in someone's yard, "Hey X, your dad's calling you."

just a guess... Maybe Dad didn't know what to say to that request 
well to know my dad i'll give you small amount of information on him. when they found out i was born with a birth defect, he immediately had a vasectomy as to prevent having any more broken babies. this was not kept a secret from me. i feel that his reason should DEFINITELY not have been told to me. because i've always known my mom wanted 2 more kids and my dad was like this one is defective. we're not having more defective babies. 
Sounds like he got fixed one kid too soon.
