I remember when gas was under 30 cents a gallon. I pumped a lot of gas at 31 cents a gallon. By the time I had my license it was nearly 50 cents a gallon.

$0.55/gal is the lowest gas price sign memory I have in my brain.

Yeppers. The US has become a net exporter of gas thanks to a breakthrough in horizontal drilling technology.

It may even become self sufficient in oil production, assuming that demand in the US goes down because of higher gas prices and federal mpg mandates.

The US is still does not produce enough oil to meet current demand. Nstural gas != oil.

Yes, natural gas is not oil. However, horizontal drilling/fracturing has opened up tight shale oil. My company is drilling wells in shale beds for the oil and natural gas liquids they produce. Natural gas interestingly enough, is no longer a target, it's too cheap.

edit: I remember seeing gas wars and it got to 12 cents a gallon once.

Does not surprise me.

It is so expensive to make... and requires so much capital to even produce... it would require contracts that span decades with set prices and quotas. Pretty much a slap in the face to the so called "free markets"...

Only thing it would do is keep us stranded on oil... so our kids can deal with the crazies in the Middle East... instead of leaving them energy independence.

Wow, it's hard to imagine the Canadians would actually try to publish anything which shows the US in a bad light.

I think the Chinese are offering them more money.

So that away when they sell to China, they can say we offered but your government refused.

Yep we are going to build a pipeline through the Rockies to the BC coast so we can ship to China and eventually have a supertanker ripped open in the hard to navigate waters where it is going and cause an environmental disaster of epic proportions.
