So long as you take a full week to clear it and then check with your bank to make sure it went through, it is pretty safe. It isnt like a regular check where there are several ways to pull the money back.

What raises a question is why send a certified check when the situation as described a normal check would work just fine.

it's such a common scam, it's in bold red on craigslist not to accept anything but cash, and don't ship stuff.
