Yep, the humane society and rescue places around here do it automatically too.
Vet is charging 50 bucks...reasonable.

The state of iowa requires the humane society and arl to chip all adopted animals.

Mine has one. The foster people's got it for him though, so I didn't see it done. They just changed over the info on the chip after I adopted.
I have his records though, and it only cost $20.

He's not chipped. Never had a reason to do it. He's pretty good about not running off.
