Some of the prettiest hardwood floors are pine.

I had a red pine floor in my victorian and red oak for the staircases only.

It was mined out so to speak by the 1920's they grew in the south and are gone now.

New forests grow to fast, the trees don't have to fight their way through the canopy and as a result they grow faster but have very open grain.

As far as your dent the iron and wet towel sounded most likely to help (use the steamer a lot) but you will have to refinish a portion of your floor and blending it in might prove more impractical than living with the dent.

Pine floors are gorgeous and look amazing when brand new...but that isn't their best feature.

They get more beautiful over time as the dents and dings accumulate and darken and they get "character".

Pine floor? Pine is a very soft wood - why would you have a pine FLOOR??

I was also curious about this... but I'm pretty sure my parquet floor is made of pine as well... but I just don't care if it gets a dent here or there, adds character.

Pine has some characteristics that make it a good choice for flooring over hard woods.

It's much cheaper. It's much easier to work with. It's more comfortable to walk on than wood floors made out of hard woods. It's very traditional and has the look that many people associate with wood flooring. It doesn't crack as it ages like hard woods do. Nails stay embedded in it much longer and splintering is less common. It doesn't echo as much as hard woods do.

Of course there are disadvantages as well. Yellow pine is a good choice for durability, but white pine has the look many people want, but it only lasts about half as long. Of course, half of 100 years is still a pretty long time.
