High speed rail makes sense in some very small (comparatively) areas...it does not make sense for a country three times the size of Europe.
Yeah, the bigger it is, the slower and less efficient you want to go. Cars are the answer!
Right now, airplanes are both quicker AND more efficient. Also cheaper.

We need a high speed rail line. A lot of people would choose that over putting up with all the BS involved in flying these days.
that is an incorrect statement.
Do you have a single source for this statement or are you just trying to be a contrarian? People posting in this very thread have already said they would participate in a rail line.
And infowars? That's seriously what Aer has fallen to?
Dont mind him. He just likes to be fondled by TSA then screwed by the airlines.

This. A widespread high speed rail system would never work in this country, flying is just more efficient and quicker even including the time the TSA is grabbing your because they think it might be a weapon.

Possibly, depending on how you define 'efficient.'
I'l not play a one-line at a time semantics discussion though. So enjoy.

This person had two overlay maps created for their own reasons but it works well enough to given an example of the differences between the North American continent and Europe.

Here is another overlay which further emphasizes the practical differences.

Certain corridors can benefit from High Speed rail, but not all.
"For long distance travel, Americans rely on their cars and the airlines."
"This reliance has led to massive congestion along major transportation corridors like I-95 in the Northeast Corridor. Today, businesses and commuters lose $115 million each year in wasted time and fuel and spend four billion hours per year stuck in traffic. 60 percent of the urban road miles of Interstate 95 are heavily congested. 70 percent of our nation's chronically delayed flights originate in the New York-New Jersey airspace. There is simply no more effective way to alleviate congestion of our roads and airways and get people to their destinations than rail."
"The Acela Express, Amtrak's high speed rail service along the Northeast corridor, has shown a positive return from its New York-to-D.C. route."

Laughable BS. BTW, not even the New York City transit system can stay out of the red and we have arguably the busiest & densest system in the country.

Oh and LOL @ "infrastructure bubble." JFC the shiz that comes out of BT's fingertips is unreal.
And i thought my ACF dictionary was up to date. pfft.
If the rail system in the US wasnt a warn out, antiquated piece of crap it would get a lot more use. A high speed line running from Vancouver, BC to San Diego, CA makes a lot of sense and would get a lot of use.
The problem with rail travel is where do you go when you get off the train? The rental car agencies need to setup at the train station. The way things are setup right now in Seattle, we have three rail options, and none of them connect to each other. it's just plain retarded.
Edit: I mean 4, I forgot the god damn Monorail!
