I think Goodell is going to paint himself into a corner with the punishment he dishes out on the players involved.

Because that will set a benchmark for punishment just for intent to injure.

Which will mean any illegal hit can be labeled as intent to injure.

i heard there is an actual paper trail to this too that has yet to be released.

i'm surprised there has been no info released tying injuries to payouts, but it's still early.

Goodell doesn't like to be lied to either, and they flat out lied to him before and during the investigation, shame on them.

With Goodell it's never about precedent or benchmarks, it's about him waking up each morning and arbitrarily deciding which infractions and which players/teams he's going to paint a target on that day.

It wasn't that long ago (Oct '08) that a league VP promised to look into Terrell Suggs' radio comment admitting to the bounties on Mendenhall and Ward after Lewis broke Mendenhall's collarbone and knocked him out for the season. Outcome of that "investigation": Fines: Zero. Suspensions: Zero. Sternly worded letters: Zero. Nor was there any response to Brian Billick's comments that the worst part of Suggs' admission was not that there was a bounty, but that Suggs spoke about it outside the locker room.

pretty sure you're wrong there.
not sure where that falls in line with the letters sent about bounties, but there has been 5 years of them being sent out,

Having an incentive program for big legal hits is normal in football. Paying incentives like $1500 for a knockout and $1000 for a cart injury is just stupid and really has no place in the game. I'm ok with the penalties.

When I was a child lying about a crime always carried a worse punishment than the actual crime.

Every defensive player in the league is on a bounty system.
