Because I play a game that is usually played while intoxicated and my acf friendship with winga developed because of it and the fact that we both drink a bunch and play pool?

My original post got wiped out when I tried posting cause my work computer hates me - forgot to mention I always break with house cues. Or did I mention that? No idea.

I can feel the difference in a cue thats 19oz vs 21oz. Slight difference, but the lighter the cue the more it throws off my game.

Side note: most of the bars I go to here have crap-ass cues. Either that or they have a table but no cues. Thus why I bring mine everywhere... And also probably cause I take after my father who takes his cue everywhere.

Well if you literally don't have any option but to use your main cue then yah, I could see getting a case that holds 2 cue's and a break cue but don't pay any more for that than your main cue. Or you could get a new main cue and use your current one as a break cue... If I get another cue my current one will take over as the break cue.

My problem at the bar is there are no tips on the cues

Lastly, I'm far from shocked that you can tell the difference from 19-21. They definitely affect how you hit the ball. But that said unless you have some skilled master break that sinks the 8 every time or sinks a few of one type and leaves you set up then you could probably pull off a decent break no matter what the weight of the cue. Staying consistent definitely helps though.

Edit: should probably clarify... imo the weight doesn't matter quite as much for the break as it does for after the break. Like you I prefer a heavy break cue but have gotten quite used to using anything from 17 and up since the cues at all of the bars suck and almost all of the 21's get broken.

You guys are super intense...

The 'house' ones have always been good enough for me...

I'm at the point where if I find a cue with a well shaped tip I'll use that no matter what the weight... unless there is a chunk of wood missing from the base or a crack that is.

The bar with the largest selection of cues (20-30) to use has maybe 1 or 2 that actually have a decent tip and straight shaft. If the weight is around 20 you hit the jackpot because most likely the ONLY 20 is warped to hell and half the tip is broken off.

Whenever there are only cues with those big (seemingly) 2" wide tips my head explodes. Why would they even make those?

The only reason I can "tell" is because I notice that with a heavier cue I play better ie: I have more control - I wasn't talking about my break. I just like using a slightly heavier cue for the way that I do break. If you saw it, you'd understand.

Well that's all true.

I wouldn't walk onto a golf course with rental clubs, or house clubs, so I guess it depends on your attitude toward the activity

When I play - I use a cue for breaking and a cue for play.

Same cue? Seperate cue?

Just wanted to verify.

My boyfriend's grandfather's late wife was a hoarder. Somewhere along the lines they obtained a ton of cues - gave him one and has offered a few to me. (Bf just told me this). Think I might take him up on this. They're all pretty new.
