heard a conversation the other day and i asked the two guys where precisely they were *from*.
African-American (huge into being called that) pointed to Peru but admitted wasn't sure as his ancestors were ripped from their villages but knew it was a west coast country.
the other a Dominican-American who when you call him Puerto Rican flips out (funny really) pointed to Cuba, but couldn't say exactly where because his ancestors came on a boat.

now i know i am white, and i apparently benefit a whole lot in every area, but i one day intend on going to Germany where one family left, Ireland where 4 families left (have pics of the exact land) Scotland, and i have already been to the native side. the other great grandparents history has never been talked about and my great grandmother would get instantly angry when asked all i know is it was in Germany somewhere.

all that said, i consider myself American...and unless you are here illegally, i consider you American too.

I think there is a gap between the older generation and the younger generation... I really did not even know that people consider races inherently different until I went to college... and took me a very long time to wrap my head around it because it was so stupid. It was just a concept used to justify using people as slaves/stealing their land/other morally disgusting things... because they were not human... a different race... and we can treat them differently. But I think things are changing... I really do not know anyone my age who thinks people are inherently different.

If you have never heard the term 'white hispanic' before, then you need to read more, plain and simple. The term hispanic has morphed around alot, and some people consider it as simple as a language grouping.


This is probably due to the fact that most of the initial reports had hm as a white guy. After that, (assuming you know a little more than ole Rho) it seems silly to correct the initial stories by saying "Oops, hes not white, he is hispanic" because he is both.

And yes, Obama is half white. Tell me, is he the only half black person you could think of? You hear a story about a white guy doing something wrong, and you go "he aint no white, i mean, what, you think this black guy is white too?" Stupid point, and clumsily made at that.

You feel like white people get oppressed. You could read a thousand stories that say "An african american commit this crime" and not bat an eyelash, but when you hear one story that says a white guy did something, you cry about how this is just reverse racism and white guilt. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. White people, especially in america, have it easier than anyone else on earth. It comes off as incredibly whiny when you spend all your time bitching about how hard it is.

Now please respond in a vague, non responsive way. here is a suggestion "you know what they say about when you make assumptions..."

That's one you use a bit. How about the assumption you are making that referring to a white hispanic as a white hispanic is somehow a war on white people?

that's quite the rant...but i must ask, what thread does most of that come from?

but in response to that, there IS a place where there it is within reason for whites to gripe. after doing an audit on applications for jobs, we basically use a 25 point scale, whites max at 20 though...that's fair though right?
funny part about that though is *Hispanic* carries into the bonus 5...no surprise there is no consistency with a government program!

Well it is the last of the racist dying out... there is a portion of people who hate Obama just for his skin color... there are also people who love him just because of his skin color. I think we only hear crap from the extremist on both sides... and the majority of people could care less.

I still remember when Obama was elected... and all the old white T.V. reporters were actually tearing up... because they knew this was a changing point for America and they were proud of the progress that was made.

To me it is just incomprehensible that we were killing people for riding in buses... for eating in a restaurant... just 50 years ago.
