Close, but I wouldn't be in a middle class neighborhood. I wouldn't be ib any neighborhood. I would have a home with a lot of land near San Diego, a home in Hawaii, a home in northern Arkansas near the Norfork River. Maybe one in SC. Maybe a couple more. I would also have about a 4M boat. I would have about 50 cars and bikes. I'd have water craft. I would go fishing all over the world. But the world would not be my toy.
Why not take that a bit further? Instead of merely having homes, you could have yourself a large chunk of land, maybe the size of Luxembourg? Maybe Luxembourg is too small, how about a parcel of land the size of France? Your wife may have been on to something, perhaps her ambition is just greater than yours. In which case 479M would not be enough.

Oh, don't be thinking the homes would have no land. I love motorsports and want to enjoy myself. And I like fishing and would do that too. And I like cattle and would run them just because. But I would also hire ranch hands. I just want them around.

that depends entirely how large your ambition is.
500M taken over 20 years or in a lump sum is more than I could spend. I would probably take it in lump and spend a lot of millions in real estate. Probably the safest shelter I could put $ in. It would not be all in one parcel either.
Psh. You could spend all of that on one bitchin' fishing boat.

St. Jude's is one of my favorites. I would definitely donate to them. I've only heard good things about Make-a-Wish but I don't know anything beyond the stuff you hear occasionally in the media.
The only bad thing about Saint Jude's is they get all the publicity and corporate support so millions upon millions go to Kentucky while all the kids with cancer in your neighborhood get left out...
