There is this winery about 10 miles from my house, and my wife and I stopped in there yesterday for the first time ever. We picked up a bottle of their blackberry wine, and some of their hard cider they just started making. In the winery, there was a tasting bar. We are wine STUPID...
before we go back next weekend for a tasting, got any tips? do's and don'ts? They charge $5 for 8 tastings. Is this normal? Never thought they would charge for people to taste their wines.

I've done the Napa/Sonoma thing a few times.
They all charge and you usually get to keep your glass.
I don't even drink and had fun.

you will have a good time.
when you go in, tell them this will be your first time. they will lead you from there on how they about it.
it is great fun, for a couple, or even a small party of ppl to try. a group of friends.

We did a cool bicycle tour once. I think it was 4 wineries with nice lunch stop. I forget how much it was, but it was worth it. By the end of the day I knew infinitely more about wine than when we started.

this. and don't worry about what you're supposed to like, just try stuff and see what YOU enjoy. my husband and I did one at Adirondack Winery last year and found several wonderful selections.

I will need to turn in my man card after telling you this... but I like fruity wines, like blackberry, blueberry, strawberry... stuff thats sweet
I guess more like dessert wines?

I'm a woman, but I like those kinds of wines, too, and so does my husband. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to red wine, but the sweeter whites (Gewurtztraminer, Riesling, some ice wines) are my favorites.

I was in Napa with friends two weeks ago...all of our tastings were free...because both of them are chefs at restaurants in the area. One is a sous chef, his fiance is a chef de partie.
