It didn't even imply that he was racist. It implied that he freely offered the observation "he looks black", in a neutral, even friendly tone. And that he had previously said the person looks suspicious.

It is up to the individual to infer whether that indicates any racism, and that was overall what NBC was going for with the segment. "Let the viewer decide". That 5 second phone clip overall would play very little role in a person's verdict.

However FOX news jumped on this very well, so politically and as a business decision, it makes sense for NBC to play along and apologize.

NBCs version

Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.

Here’s how the actual conversation went down:

Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.

Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?

Zimmerman: He looks black.

yeah editing that does not change the racial overtones at all

Except that quote wasn't given at all. I guess you haven't watched the clip?

"This guy..." was on a completely separate text line, AND graphic, from "He looks black". They did what they do every time, when jumping between parts of a phone convo.

Splicing audio is ok in the eyes of liberals like levgre. They want to hear what they want to hear and don't care for authenticity.

Splicing audio is done constantly in the news. It is entertainment. They interview reporters standing in flood waters. They hype up every little election event. They cut up a phone conversation so the viewer doesn't get bored in those 10 seconds and doze off.

So is it your opinion that liberal media is only entertainment and should not be trusted?

Nah, just that many of their broadcasts are not great for in-depth information. There are some decent in-depth specials though.
