NBC News issued an apology Tuesday for the way it handled the broadcasting of the 911 conversation between George Zimmerman and a police dispatcher in the Trayvon Martin case.

Following reports that NBC aired audio of the call was edited in a way that implied Zimmerman was racist, the network launched an internal investigation.

"During our investigation it became evident that there was an error made in the production process that we deeply regret. We will be taking the necessary steps to prevent this from happening in the future and apologize to our viewers," the network said in a statement cited by The Washington Post.

i want to see the people directly involved serve jail time for it. i'm sick of the news being sensationalized for either ratings or personal/political motivations. this kind of crap needs to be taken more seriously.

If he's convicted though shouldn't the money go to Trayvon's family? The whole profiting from crime thing.

Except in this country you are innocent until proven guilty, beyond the shadow of the doubt.

Am I wrong for still believing in that concept?

The way it looks right now, it would be stretch to try and convict this guy on anything.
Its his story collaborated by eye witnesses and then other side of story that has parts fabricated by the mass media.

Good point. It does sway public opinion with how they portrayed the call.

CNN (TV) is reporting alleged racist language used by Zimmerman and has certain professionals backing it up, but the audio is mostly static and unclear from what I've heard of it. If it's the presented to a jury, I think an expert witness will have to instruct the jury about what they're hearing, rather than it being obvious by listening to it.

It didn't even imply that he was racist. It implied that he freely offered the observation "he looks black", in a neutral, even friendly tone. And that he had previously said the person looks suspicious.

It is up to the individual to infer whether that indicates any racism, and that was overall what NBC was going for with the segment. "Let the viewer decide". That 5 second phone clip would play very little role in a person's verdict, and I know I wouldn't really notice or infer anything hearing it for the first time. I just don't think there is anything that comes off racist even with the partial conversation.

However FOX news jumped on this very well, so politically and as a business decision, it makes sense for NBC to play along and apologize.
