I have a pair of cat steel toe boots that are just now falling apart after 10 years

It really breaks down to 3 things:

-The quality of the boot based on your needs
-What kind of wear and tear it gets on a daily basis
-What kind of maintenance it gets on a weekly/monthly basis

If they do get heavy usage, you should look into owning more than one pair, (as was suggested by the other poster).

I do high-rise concrete construction. A $200 pair of boots will last me about a year. Wet concrete is terrible for the leather.

Martens suck for work boots. Im in mud and concrete all the time and it ruins them fast if you dont maintain them. I clean and snow seal mine every few weeks.

Walking rebar cages wears them out faster than anything else I know.

I actually use my work boots to work. I had a pair o Red Wing work boots, about $200. They repaired them but they still only lasted a year. I had bought really cheap ones but they wore out fast and hurt my feat. I now pay about $90 for some "Stanley" work boots.

if you wear them everyday they wear out 3-4 times faster than if you had two pair and rotate them. Shoes of any kind need to dry out, which doesn't happen overnight.

The last time I bought an expensive pair of boots got my foot caught in a conveyer belt and shredded them the second day I wore them. Prolly saved my foot tho!

Edit: So glad my days of manual labor are over!

Yah messes up the shape of the sole plus thousands of tiny holes from the wire.
