i think the thing that got under my collar the most about the moderation back way back then was the mods who who would just be browsing ACF and were not all that 'hip' to the ACF culture and perform a drive-by edit/lock/ban with nary a warning or FYI, the only way you found out WTF happened was via MSN or YIM if you had a mod friend who could look it up and tell ya -OR- via the UBR when said stealth mod would get around to unbanning ya

Some were justified, some were not. I don't want to offend other moderators but lets just leave it at that ACF had a hands off policy for the most part but we expected major violations to be and could be handled by any moderator.

more to the point, im grousing about the lack of tranparency with respect to trangressions: stealth bans were an all or nothing affair without feedback (for the most part) until the UBR was fully processed.

generally speaking, stealth bans were for the most part reserved for autoban offenses that were done by mods who post on acf or were brought to a reply by a pm because a local was not on. getting back to my prior comment with hands off, non local mods were told to leave no trace to cut down on pissing off the community in the case of an emergency action.

After a ban, the ubr queue was our only line of communication with the user while they were banned.

the banning mod would have to then let the local mods know what was up so everyone was in the loop. it was up to the user to get back to a local if they had a question. that seems stand-off-ish but it is how we did things. I had no problem going over something with a user who had an issue or question.
