i hope you can get the server running soon

Server is running fine.

He's been saying he was going to make updates optional... hopefully he's finally done it so this dance can end with this update.

I hope I'm not understanding correctly. The way I read that you don't intend to update the server beyond the current release. Please tell me I'm reading that wrong.

No the dance I am referring too is him forcing an update then servers being unplayable until all of the modders can update their plugins/wrappers/etc to work with the new version. If, like pretty much every other piece of software out there, his client simply said "hey there is a new version available *click here to update*" instead of forcing the update we could continue playing just fine right on through patch day until all the plugins/wrappers are patched up and tested then I could push out the changes on the server and THEN you guys could update your clients.

At this point nothing is modded to work with the new client so either I load a vanilla server with none of our protections, tools or tweaks running on it and we wing it or the server becomes unplayable until all the modders catch up with the new version.

Oh good. I see what you mean now.

I'm going to try the trick posted above to revert my client.

I figured out why I am chugging so badly (I think), it appears your old maps get converted to the new save format. The map I use for sp is just shy of 15MB and mc seems ot hate running it. Tried anew ma and while I did run into a bit of a performance hit it was nowhere near as bad as with my old map.

I used the trick Acery posted and reverted. It worked like a charm. Thanks.

I'm not going to upgrade until Steel does.

I figured out the cause of my extreme lag last night. I knew it wasn't the server because nobody else was lagging. I suspected my internet connection. I tried SSP after logging and that lagged like crazy too. So that wasn't it. I reinstalled Java and that worked.

I'm still getting some weird chugging, turns out others are as well and it is somehow related to a minor change in how the mouse responds.

Anyways, so I geeked out and made a new world using 'Ocura' as the seed, something kinda dirty about using my own name to seed a planet but in a good way. Turns out I am a super cool world which loves to spawn poor Steve amongst a bunch of pricks. No shortage of cactus near my spawn lol. Check out this thread if you want to find some priceless seeds and their results.

I tried "Webscar" as the seed and ended up in a place that had a cave nearby that reached all the way down to level 21

It's part of the update. It will occur naturally below sand.
