The backups are running a lot more smoothly. The lag is still noticeable but greatly reduced.

As for the WorldGuard/Edit and Bukkit issues there were two versions of WG/WE out because Bukkit broke some things. Probably has been addressed by now though. I just haven't had time to go back and research it to see if we can upgrade. My priority is stability. If that means we run a couple versions back that is ok with me.
I ate it, cause the spawn keeps putting me on the roof and I have to jump down to get into the tower and that hurst like 4 hearts. Hell that's what I figured the cake was there for lol.
can't you just make it a respawning cake?

can't you just make it a respawning cake?
You should be able to jump down into the top floor. Not much damage that way, or shouldn't be.
That said... the whole inexact spawn thing is a pain in the butt. It spawns you close to spawn then on top of everything else so if you are to one side or the other of the actual spawn you end up on the roof. I think WorldGuard has an exact spawn option but it wasn't working in Bukkit last I checked. Looking forward to it getting implemented.

might be a good idea to make a fireman's escape... just a 2x3 hole in the floor (and roof) with a water break/pool at the bottom

Is it true that you can only access The Nether if you run it on a separate server in multipayer?

Correct. The Nether is in fact a separate world altogether. This means that a server has to be set as the Nether, or as something else.
There are mods out there that will manage your character and transfer them from one server to the other. In most cases the use of this would be to let players go to a Nether Server; though I'd not be surprised if some people used it to send people to other Non-Nether servers.

Yeah I actually really like the idea of running parallel servers and providing ports between them but want to iron everything else out first.
