Fixed being able to change a block's metadata using pistons (wool, stone bricks, slabs, etc)
I just built my blockchanger too.

Vrooom!
All updated, sadly it seems the lag spikes around my Nether farm continue.
On the upside I can use the alternate F3 view and see its trying to update liek 100 blocks when my framerate drops to 1.
I wonder if there might be a huge lava flow nearby that has to keep being rendered...

I know I probably repeated myself a thousand times but for the record, my XP Pro machine at work locks just like you but my Win 7 64 bit professional machine at home does not show the chunk loading nor does it freeze up in that area.
I'm wondering if it is a java/platform specific issue.

Might have something to do with the 64 bit version of java being better...
it could be the main platform they are devleoping for as most new machine have some flavor of 64 bit os

Server itself was stable, just minecraft crashed. I guess that is what you can expect from a beta... oh wait. 
It is back up now.
