No your best bet is to get to them and pick them up. One way to avoid this is a lava bath every day to keep your xp down. Why they have them dropping like that I will never figure out. One big orb or orbs in multiples would greatly reduce that. Heck the way I expected it to be was XP loss on death which made death mean something. If orbs drop it kind of ruins that aspect.

Hmmm I'll wait until much much later so I don't lag everyone off the server. It'll take me forever to get them, seriously couldn't move. Reading and reading and reading. jeb insists they are fixed in the pre-v2... why this wasn't fixed for 1.8 beta is beyond me. Incremental orbs make so much more sense (and leave the damn things out until stats are in)

Hmm weird, server on 1.8 or 1.8.1? Orbs just vanish when I die in sp game now and jeb posted they are fixed with the 1.8.1 server client (won't poof already dropped ones but fixes the issue of them dropping and lagging out)

OK that was weird. Could've sworn I responded, lol. We are running 1.8.1 and it is the same exact file currently available for download. I'll drop a fresh one anyway just in case but don't think it will help. Some others are reporting running 1.8.1 and are still having the problem so not sure what the deal is.

Oh and this is why we can't have nice things...
I left a room in my basement dark for giggles and the Ender spawns are slowly destroying it, lol.
Gimp was playing hell with compression on that pick due to the shadows. This is good enough to show the damage though.

Here's pictures of where I'm settling, a bit too far from spawn for anyone to visit 
On the other side of that pillar-like mountain is a town I'm gonna build by, and build a big wall to protect it from creepers.

Nice spot, where at least two biomes meet.
I ventured far from spawn and claimed a village. Spent a bunch of time lighting the area up before I did much else. No point in trying to claim a town if the endermen spawn close and come pick it apart. I'll go back eventually (it's 4k blocks from spawn) and work on a wall for it and some water flows to keep things out. Big projects!
