While I may tend to agree with you or would have at some time you have to face facts that it is a game and things change. What hasn't changed is the community which is what we here on the boards are all about. Thanks for bringing so much to these boards with what I'm sure are 91 posts of the utmost quality.

Actually i have a few questions about this.
1) Will there be any user name conflicts like when Ywain formed?
2) Inactive users, will they be auto directed to the new board(s)?
3) Will any of our Mods retain their Mod status?
4) Can i have your stuff?

That depends on the forum, I've seen some forums being way overmodded and I just hope IGN is professional and goes by the rules.
I can't see why a forum would need 100+ mods but I can see posters getting fed up with being micromanaged.
Of course, that's a worst case scenario. I know nothing about IGN boards except what you posted about it.
Let me be more specific. Users will not be able to get away with taunting mods there like they do here.
I'm not speaking of playful banter but say a poster that doesn't like an edit and re-posts something and calls out the mod. I would prefer a warning over a ban but the mod on IGN wont think twice about a ban. Public and private harassment for example wont be escalated to a manager. The mod will just do what needs to be done to put a stop to it.
Not a shot at you Acery, but Moderators using Kindergarten teacher type punishments on a playerbase that is typically 21++ isn't going to go over well, and will ultimately lead to the end of VN/IGN daoc boards.
Unfortunately it the only road to take on a forum. I always thought the VN and IGN were above other forums that were run by the gaming companies themselves because we had an active Unban System here. If you mouthed off on Blizzard's forums you were permabanned. Here if you mouthed off, you get a warning or a ban if you've had prior warning on record. However, short of being a detriment to the community, you were always allowed to come back if only after a short few days.
People screw up in the heat of the moment and I get that. Unless I could reach through the monitor and gibbs-slap you (have to be an NCIS fan to get that) then the only recourse to someone constantly breaking the rules is to give them a ban.
Be glad you had admins and managers who did not approve permabans on a whim because we were having a bad week. I can still count on one hand how many people have been perma'd since I became a manager two and a half years ago.
Hopefully ywain will be moving in its entirety to IGN so your post history on this board should move with it. I'll know more and beib/myself will fill you in as we get the info.
