For starters, they want to streamline the leveling:
1-57: hearth in your local city next to your questing hub, which has an AH and trainers.
58-68: hearth in Shatt, which now has an AH and trainers.
68-80: hearth in Dalaran, which now has an AH and trainers.
80-85: hearth in Stormwind or Orgrimmar, as they have portals to the new content.
Anything else, take a boat/zep or ask your friendly neighborhood mage.
And secondly, they don't want people staying bound in Dalaran (which had no impact from the expansion) just to use the portal system.
Personally, I like it.

They will as of tomorrow, once you have opened up a content area by doing a number of quests in that area you can portal there.

I'm kind of sad that they removed the travel hubs, but then, my mage is loving the business too. Glad I have a decently high level mage on my Alliance server - my first 60 in classic, now 70 and growing.
