I am looking to try some of the UI add ons. Is using Curse safe or how would you recommend getting them? Also which Addons should I look at first?

Curse is as safe as your computer is. Don't walk into Mordor with the ring around your neck.

I use that site and wowinterface.com as well with no problems, as long as you have a good firewall and AV running and scan the downloads you should be ok.

In a word, NO.

They have been the source of large scale account loss on multiple occasions. You can use their site, but use extreme caution. Their addons are safe so long as you manually install them. Use of their client is perhaps risky, but unlikely. What you really need to be concerned about are any advertisements that they serve up at their sites or in their client.

I wouldn't use the curse client.

Firefox with Flash block and no script will make the site itself safe.

A decent AV package will ensure that zip files are safe themselves. Consider that the WoW executable just reads addon files, there is no execution of malware possible with the files themselves. Just have to be careful of executables disguised as zip files.

Once again a decent AV package works well along with basic precautions against the site itself.

If you can run something virtualized all the better to be ultra safe.

I've been using Curse client for two years with no problems. Just don't randomly search for and install addons without already knowing they're safe.

Since starting up again I havn't bothered to download any add ons, however when I was playing for a few years previously I never had a problem. I don't even run AV software to be honest. I do use no script and fire fox and I install my apps manually. I don't need any help to copy and paste something into my add on folder.
