Thanks Sprawl I wouldn't have been able to see that otherwise. I wonder if you could have flown over to the warchiefs ship with a flying mount.

No! I tried!
The first time I did this quest, I saw him over there, so I mounted up and the stuff flew off so fast I stood zero chance of catching up.
I had to fly back to Azshara, wait another 5 minutes for the next ship, and go again.
