Hi all, I'm a long time board stalker and infrequent poster. I have a question.

One of my secondary accounts was hacked tonight, only found out because Blizz sent

me an email verifying the password change. Here's my question, or questions..

What's the best free way to scan for key loggers? My two main accounts have authenticators

on them so I'm think I'm ok there.

Thoughts?

btw.. merry christmass....

If you think your computer is comprised, best to wipe and reload the OS, then change your password to the account.

I played WoW for 4 years without a fob and never got hacked. Make sure once the OS is back on, you update the Flash/Java/Reader to the latest versions.

I read http://isc.sans.edu/ on a daily basis and also work as computer support for my full time job. Sometimes my users will click on some EXE that isn't even detected by ESET/NOD32 and they get infected. I usually just do a system restore to a point in time before they got infected and then when the virus signatures update several hours later, it will find and delete the now dormant virus files.

I would suggest upgrading to Windows 7 if you haven't already and leave UAC on. If you are still on XP, get something like Sandboxie to put IE in a sandbox. That's where most of the exploits come through (Internet facing app).

Before you do something utterly retarded like reinstall your operating system (I cannot believe someone claiming to be in tech support stated that as his FIRST option), did you actually go and verify the account was stolen or do you just have the email SAYING the password was changed?

I used to get those on a pretty much daily basis, on the rare occasions I looked in my spam folder. Needless to say, the password was still the same as it was before.

Thanks, but it's been fun
Five more minutes then I'm done!
I've been saying that to myself since

check the link in your email...

Resetting password scam gets you to enter your information to check your account... into a spoofed website.

Ideology is not reality.
To make good policy, one must consider all ideologies and decide which best solves the reality of the situation. Ideology is afterall, JUST AN IDEA.

Nope, I did check first, I tried to login and couldn't then tried to login to Bnet and couldn't.

I reset the password word via the secret question and there were two characters with odd names on servers

I don't play on. I had a spare authenticator and added it to the account.

Still brings me back to the original question. Blowing up my OS is one option but very time consuming.

The virus scanner didn't bring anything up that suspicious. Anyway still working on it.

It is too bad we can't just line up and shoot hackers.

So Perry Mason, now that was an "utterly retarded" suggestion, what's your next step?

Not that I get many viruses, but I have found that reformating is usually easier, especially with todays virus's that usually can not be removed by a virus scanner.
