When I finish a random dungeon and get that sack of goodies or whatever they are called, I get a blue item as a reward.
Lately however I noticed the items don't seem to be progressing with my level. My character is level 64, but the items I'm getting are 48 and completely worthless.
Is this normal?

Pretty much after you get the level 55 item, the ones after it really do not scale with burning crusade items, so they tend to suck. I also noticed that sometimes the item you recieve is a bit random (the lvl 55 item instead of the 60 item, or 45 item instead of 55 item.) I am not sure how they decide what the reward is, whether it is based on the instance, your level or some random factor.

I think it looks at the class spec that I am playing, then finds the most useless item for that spec

Haven't done any BC randoms actually. So haven't met this problem yet.

Unless they changed something, no this isnt normal. At 64 I was getting very decent BC quality blues after running random DF about 3 months ago on my hunter. I would say something is wrong.

Yeah, when it first came out, it seemed like I would get something for my level and it tended to be useful for my spec stats-wise. Was leveling up an alt lately and it seemed like it was random. Even the level reqs were low such as a lvl 42 req when my char was 53.

From what I remember it always dropped off once you reached BC.

You should be worrying about ilevel btw, not the level req to use the item. A req level 48 with an ilevel of 100 is better than a req level 55 with an ilevel of 75.

Err, not in all cases. Sometimes higher ilevel doesn't always mean BiS for that class.
