Didn't miss anything? Maybe by todays standards but DAoC pretty well set the standards and paved the way for future MMO PvP (well, UA sort of did too ;-P ).
I played Mordred and absolutely LOVED it. I wish WoW would come out with a server like that. Remove zone wide speech so we don't have to hear everyone spamming about X being a nAgger, Y being a j00bag and so on.
My personal favorite was rolling up a /level theurg, going ice spec and having my pets pwn lvl 50s in the face. lolz was so fun

Look, those of you who found Mordred are no different than those who found Darktide in Asheron's Call.
You found something that was niche, but got your panties wet. If it was as awesome as you and Darktiders insist, it would be more popular than it is.

For those who never played anything better. For all the others, DAoC is still the bane of PvP, the game which invented "canned pvp" and killed world PvP.
Best RVR game? Possibly, as said above, "for those who are into that", which is "canned PvP".
But best PvP game? Not even remotely close. It's actually one of the worse if not the worse, for the reasons mentioned above.
