Didnt'have a problemin Rift beta or Civ IV. Either of those count as graphics intensive?

Civ 4 is more processor intensive than graphics intensive. I wouldn't know about Rift though.

Perhaps it is one of the special effects settings? Like that weird sunlight slider or water?

So I haven't seen you say if you were using WoW with this card/machine before it starting happening or not? If so did it start doing it after one of the WoW patches?

Have you run a DXDiag to see if any drivers popup with warnings?

Uh, really? Did you replace the power supply at the same time you replaced your video card? If not I'd be very suspect of the power supply or perhaps even your AC line power in your house/building.

It might even be a bad power cable from the power supply to the video card as well. If you have spare power cables try switching to another connector. But I'd check your power and power supply first if there isn't any other symptoms that occurred at the time you started seeing all this.

Actually I think I figured it out. I don't have enough RAM. I only have 2 GB. While that was sufficient fo my odl card, I think this one is using up more resource wise. I'll have to go buy some new sticks.

Power supply is new. The vid card I had, Radeon 8600 or 9600? was an old one that had been through a couple machines. Did a quick run through of my machine to make sure everything appeared to be in good shape when I put this card in a few months ago.

I'll give that a try this afternoon.

I had your issue with Rift and LOTRO and DA2, turns out it was the graphics fan, there is a fan underneath the graphics card, didn't see it the first time. I used the air spray stuff and it's better now.

Or at least, so far so good as of today. ;p

Having less than ideal RAM isn't going to give you visual artifacting, Pally. What you are describing is a GPU issue. Games don't always utilize cards the same way, particularly across different engines. More specifically, artifacts and freezes are either a power issue or a heat issue. If I let WoW run amok with my card (read: no Vsync) it stresses it beyond belief because its pushing more than 120 FPS fully utilizing the card.

RAM is completely independent of your GPU. While having 4 gb is ideal, at minimum for todays games, it is not causing your problem.

You need to monitor the temperature on your GPU. Play WoW in a window and try to run something like EVGA Precision next to it to see how high your GPU temps are getting.

Pally, what motherboard do you have?

With as many issues as there are floating around with incompatible motherboards, id like to see if i can find anything about yours specifically.

I can't even get up to 4 gig anyway, I only have 32 bit Windows XP, won't recognize anything past 3.

Asus M2N32 - SLI Someone was having issues with that mother board and a different vid card. But seemed as though the main issue would be freezing completely and I'm not doing that. Will try running so stuff to see how hot the card gets.
