Good point... I am behind the 'curve' so to speak, so the majority of PUGs I enter are better geared than myself. The Tanks usually being amongst the best geared - I would assume due to the lower queue times.
I think also, my expectations from groups linger slightly from WOTLK days when everyone were in epics...
