Yes I'm very confused by that response. I know people play for different motivations, but I thought at some point they boiled down to, because on some level it's fun.
But he may have pointed out the issue with WoW PvP, many (most?) players probably agree with Blizzard, and that they PvP to get gear, they don't consider it a chore to get gear so that they can have fun PvP'ing.
I find that interesting. Not very good for players like me, but pretty interesting dynamic.

I can see how people might get bored if they don't feel like they are working towards something... I personally don't have that issue since I like the actual PVP and not the rewards I get from it, but I understand those that need the carrot to keep them going. It makes things more interesting to have goals and meet them or to measure their progress vs other players.
It would be nice if there were some other incentive to PVP that didn't relate directly to gear, though.

I do find them fun because it works towards progressing my character... much like Heroics for people who run those. I am sure you know what I mean but enjoy trying to twist my words...<sigh>
Also: Have you ever heard of a Skinner box? I am pretty sure the success of Wow works in the same way and the recent shortcomings are due to not enough 
Here is the gist of it: Reward / Condition animals for doing something repetitive. After a while the animals will do anything to get their reward as they become addicted to the conditioning.

I PVP because the contest is fun.
The "gear" is just a means to that end...I do NOT PVP "because obtaining the gear is fun"...
To skip the carrot chase, and get straight to the fight? Hell yah. Give the gear away if you ask me.
If you enjoy getting the gear, because it makes fighting those without it "easy"...then you PVP for the wrong reasons, and I would wager that you lose every fight against any opponent that is not wearing greens.

The reason I don't like same-faction battlegrounds is the same reason I don't like a lot of the changes of recent. The game continues to move towards an amusement park and less a roleplaying game. I suppose many will argue that ship has sailed long ago, but even still, it continues even more as faction lines blur.

The contest is also fun and that is a bonus. But to say I PVP for the wrong reasons? lol All I do is PVP.

Yup, that's what I said.
Just to verify...If everyone had the exact same gear, (and thus, you had no advantage in that aspect), would you still find PVP enjoyable?

I arena on 8+ toons a week with varying gear. One fully geared. One 2 pieces away now and then variations from there all the way down to 'just dinged 85'. I play at all gear levels. Gear is as even as it's ever been. I play for gear but enjoy the ride.

Well, just to be clear, it isn't mixed factions. Horde can get que'd against horde and alliance can get que'd against alliance. We can't actually all be on the same team.
Yep, instead of dealing with the Horde over population brought on by the lopsided win/loss ratios, which in turn was brought on by Blizzard bias they are going to mask the situation by pitting Horde vs Horde to add to their overall losses while pitting Alliance vs Alliance to pad theirs in order to make it appear it is a lot more balanced than it really is.
