I'd first check and make sure your account isnt banned first before posing any interest. Seems like they ban accounts due to inactivity

Ack, no. They don't ban due to inactivity. But it's certainly true that for whatever reason, accounts that have been inactive for a long time seem to be way more vulnerable to hacks. It's not unusual to see folks take an extended break from the game only to return and find their 'inactive' account was taken over by gold farmers and subsequently banned.
On the bright side (if there is one to such a yucky situation), Blizzard resolves those problems quickly when you contact them. One friend of mine not only got his account back intact, but also had a bank full of ore and herbs that the farmers had gathered but not yet sold, and his alt Hunter - apparently the character used for the farming - had been leveled from 45 to 75 and had purchased mounts. He got to keep the herbs/ore as well as maintain the extra levels and mounts on his alt =P.
Edit to answer your question: I have mixed feelings about the Cata endgame content, but I can say this much...it is totally worth it to start a new character at level 1 and check out the new quest lines and zones. Even if you aren't crazy about questing, etc. Blizzard did a fantastic job of revamping the old world and the leveling experience. It'd be worth it to return just for that even if you don't stick around.
Shoot me a PM if you want a scroll of resurrection, btw. Or there's usually a thread going somewhere on these boards with folks offering scrolls.

Depends what you're into, IMO. Lots of new/revised content for leveling. Super fast 81-85 leveling, then same faction/heroic/point grinds as wotlk, but they go very fast. Talent trees mutilated (happens ever expac but they REALLY gutted everything this time), lots of core game design changes that nobody asked for, and so on.
WoW still crushes all other MMORPGs into fine particles of dust but the current "B Team" of GC and the clowns keeps making questionable design decisions and moves as if they were trying to sabotage the game.

Yeah, just ask those 600,000 subscribers that blizzard lost in the first quarter alone after the expansion.

Not as fun as it used to be, despite what the bleating fansheep say. WoW is currently worse than it has ever been, full of arrogant devs, clueless and completely out of touch with the playerbase. It really depends on who you listen to, the devs and their drivel about how the game is dynamic and fresh. Or the people who actually play the game, they talk about the recycled content, boring classes, homogenization of all the classes, useless changes to mechanics and talent trees, every class is either 1 button mashing, autoattacking waiting for a proc, or uses clunky alternate power sources like holy power.
Not a game I would come back to, wait for the next game to come out and play that. Or you could listen to people who yell from inside the devs ass how good the game is (when they have lost 100's of thousands of subs and have now institued a "Here is a free full account to give to your friends" program, becuz the loss of subs is starting to get noticeable)

LOTS of changes with xpac, I personally felt the cost was worth it to play, however I find myself not nearly as happy with the game as I was when WotLK came out.
