Kinda sad really.

Not as sad as their game evidently.

makes sense to offer to have people pay less during summer time since most people are out of the house expect you I guess.

You have a source for this?

The official site still has their month to month sub at $14.99 which seems pretty standard to me. The only thing I can find is that they have a sale going so you can save a nominal amount if you purchase 3, 6, or 12, month packages.

A 3 month sub has gone from $38.97 to $36.78 a savings of 5.6%
A 6 month sub has gone from $65.97 to $61.74 a savings of 6.4%
A 12 month sub has gone from $119.88 to $107.88 a savings of 10%

Not seeing where you're coming up with 40% plus it says that the prices are only good in July so it's not a permanent reduction.

OMG a game developer is having a sale the sky is falling!!

The game is $20 on sale this weekend, or something. Frankly, that's a smart move. The fact Blizzard still charges something like $80 to get up to speed right now, is ridiculous.

The OP didn't understand or made an error.

http://www.riftgame.com/en/products/subscriptions.php

It's 40% off the regular monthly price when you sub for a year, not 40% off all subs.

WoW is still very popular and still growing after years. Why would they charge less when they can still charge full price?

Bliz has always been pretty brutal with pricing, even before they became part of a corporation and became corporate whores. Now they're amongst the worst in the industry, looking to squeeze cash out of players at any opportunity. It's almost hard to blame them when people will pay more than the cost of a sub for vanity pets, mounts, data xfers - trivial crap.

Wow's subscriptions declined by over 600,000 in a single quarter.

"Growing." That word does not mean what you think it means
