Why would anyone want to "struggle" and bother to read a guide to continue to heal in this game?
Seriously, just don't heal and blizzard will get the message when more people quit due to ever increasing queue times due to lack of tanks and healers.
Continuing to be desperate enough to take it where blizzard gives it to you makes you part of the problem instead of the solution

Blizzard destroying healing in Cata is the main reason I quit... If they fix (read: revert) back to the older models, I may consider it again.

I don't mind most parts of the new mechanic. The only part that I can't stomach is the futile feeling when you heal. You spam your biggest heal, going out of mana in 8-10 casts, and that is just to top off a tank with almost 200k health.
When I played, if you had a good tank and excellent, aware DPS (or everyone outgeared the content), then you didn't even need a full spec healer. An Elemental Shaman could heal any damage the tank might take while still doing some DPS and probably with better mana regen than a Resto. If the group was crappy or undergeared, you felt like trying to fill a bathtub with a thimble or whatever other analogy about small fill methods and large tanks.

I tend to agree with you there Bremen. I think the punishment for not using your most efficient spells all the time is too high.

Har har. Seriously though, I love the game and would love to play it again but I decided back in December to show them my irritation with the new game mechanics for healers by not giving them anymore money. I have not given them a cent since and I will maintain that until they change things for the better.
Also, I think this thread needs a "crap" analogy. Healing was a good bologna sandwich I was enjoying before Cataclysm. Blizzard then decided to take my sandwich and replace it with a crap sandwich which I chose not to eat. The sad thing is that other players just busily started munching their crap sandwiches and marveled at why I was such a retard for not just "adapting" and enjoying the new crap sandwich I was given. O.o
