Today Blizzard announced a new in-game pet that you can purchase for $10 US. Unlike the previous purchasable pets/mounts this one will be a tradeable, one-time-use pet. According to the Q&A they are totally fine with this pet being traded for in game currency.

In many ways this was the case once they allowed the trading card game items to be put up on the AH. Yet this just compouns that even further. Makes me wonder if the new MMO they are working will follow Diablo 3 with its money based AH.

That pet is so overpriced for a one use pet.

If I bought it for myself I would only do so if it applied to all characters I make. I can understand the limit if I was gifting it, but it bodes very badly for future pets.

The trading cards imho are worse than the in-game pet.

With the in-game pet, you can spend $10 for an item that you can trade or sell to other players. The value of doing this will fall pretty quickly as the market get saturated (lining Blizzard's pockets in the process).

Being that Blizzard has set this at $10, it limits the impact.

However, these trading cards go for hundreds of dollars making it much easier to scale and abuse. Not to mention, the exchange can go both ways. Cash for Cards. Cards for WoW gold. WoW gold for cards. Cards for Cash.

personally, you are not going to stop the selling of virtual property...so embrace it and make money, by charging fees like the will be doing in D3.

cant wait to sell a Crude Sash of the Azure for like $100! lol

Tie WoW to your Paypal account, and $$$ value will automatically appear in the Auction House next to the in-game gold price, saving you the annoyance and confusion of dealing with gold farmers.

Act now!!

It was bound to happen at some point. This seems to be the least harmful way to implement this system into the game.

Of course, now they will release a million pets like this with various price tags. Blizzard sure knows how to line their pockets with useless fluff that the masses will flock to.

I guess they got tired of the 'half of proceeds to charity' thing they had going. Give them all of the money now!

What is interesting is with how much money Blizzard can make from these items they could make the game fo F2P. I mean also with the new cosmetic feature coming out in the next patch they can, and will most likely, begin selling cosmetic gear on the store.

I could give a rats a$$ if they sell vanity items to people. Again.. its only been said a million times.. a company is in business to make money..AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. If some dimwits dont get it or think a company should put a limit on how much money they should make then they are the clueless ones.

PS. I am not buying into the pet store, or vanity store if it progresses that way.. never have, never will.

..and dont be dumb.. there is soooooo much friggin gold in the game at this point..these pets are not going to impact the "economy" at all.

So in closing.. although dramatic.. the title of this thread is bunk.
