With DCUO announcing that later in Oct to be going FTP when do you think WoW will join the ranks of LOTRO, DDO and others?

My guess is after the last two theoretical expacs come out.

I don't see WoW going F2P for a really long time, if ever. If somebody hasn't released a better MMO by the time that happens I will have washed my hands of the whole damn genre and won't care anyway.

Considering they sold 5 million boxes of Cataclysm, I doubt anytime soon.

Exactly. Which is why I said after the next 2 expansions.

There was a study a while back (who knows how legit) that suggested most people will only maintain one subscription-based MMO at a time. Following that line of logic, perhaps when the upcoming unnamed MMO is released.

That new Star Wars game is bound to go F2P first.

I believe it. They are not cheap and I think you need to focus on one game in order to have a decent toon.

WoW will be the 800 pound gorilla for many years to come. It doesn't matter how many WoW-Killers come out. The only thing (or hope) that will kill WoW is Blizzard. On the plus side, Blizz has proven that they are willing to alienate subscribers to adhere to there C-Team "vision", so as to accelerate the demise of WoW. All things considered, I don't see WoW going F2P for probably 2 or 3 years atleast. There are waaaaaaaaay too many fanbois to expect it to happen any sooner than that.
