Another one joins the ranks of free to play. Didnt even know this was going to happen. One more expansion from WoW and I see them trying this out

Blizzard/WoW doesn't need to go free-to-play, going F2P is what dying games do to generate population and revenue, Blizzard is FAR from being there.

can't be worse than lotro

Think again, at least LoTRO allowed you to choose which chars to unlock for your 2 slots, even if they were a race/class that they were charging for in the store. EQ2 limits you to 4 races, if all of your chars are of other races, they will be locked and you will have to pay to unlock them. I have 8 characters on Antonia Byle

EQ2 went Semi F2P earlier this year

you only had access to 4 races and 6 classes and could only level up so much with out paying SO if you wanted to unlock stuff they had regular premium and platinum setups and each gave more and more but they were all still subscriptions so it wasn't a true F2P infact the Platinum subscription was a damn scam if you ask me

now it seems they have embraced LOTRO idea of F2P which i love and hope thats the direction MMO's take if they are going to do this F2P stuff

EQ2 wasn't all that bad.. it has everyone i liked about MMO's but can be a bit to grindy and hardcore EQ fans can be scary

EQ2 did NOT embrace the same F2P setup that LoTRO does, there is no premium after you spend money, because of that one feature, LoTRO has most F2P games beat by a long shot, the rest want money for everything, every time you turn around.
Let's also mention the fact that as free, you are limited to Adept level spells, no free to play game has ever limited your abilities, that is absolutely absurd. And another EXTREMELY absurd limit is, you can't even wear all your armor! My higher level characters have had armor removed from their equipment into their inventory, and they can not equip it, Sony wants 150 Station Credit for me to buy 5 unlockers to unlock gear I can't equip because of my account level?? Really? Time to uninstall and forget completely about EQ2.

If more games that convert to F2P would use a setup like LoTRO there'd be less hassle.

Edit: Ok I have to retract some of what I said, I tried it the day after it went F2P and was pretty upset because all of my characters were locked. Further researching has turned up a post made by Sony/EQ2 yesterday stating all characters, regardless of race/class, created before 12-6-11 will be grandfathered in and unlocked.

Yeah, it was called Everquest II Extended, and basically, that's the model they used to push EQ2 to F2P, it's horrid, way too greedy.
