Wasn't sure where to put this, hence the off topic tag.

I'm fooling around with Dragon Age 2 at the moment.

Now I know people will disagree and have troll opinions about this, but to me Dragon Age does have interesting lore. Without talking too much bullcrap, I wondered which fantasy MMORPG would come close to that sort of a Dragon Age MMORPG, assuming EA/Bioware would never develop (as if that would ever happen ).

There is a ton of scifi MMORPGs, including Star Trek, Star Wars and Eve Online; the latter being likely the greatest MMORPG-example for my beloved Homeworld(tm) ever since.

Now, there is an even larger pool on the fantasy MMORPG side if I were to be looking for a Dragon Age'esque MMORPG.

Which one do you think is a viable canidate?
If you can, try tossing in less popular MMORPGs (Whether f2p/asian/failprojects, whatever)

Please note that this is probably more about PVE than PVP, so let's not get deep into pvp talk. Roleplaying + PvE is actually more of a thing I'd be looking out for .

I think I can scratch a few:

~ Obviously, WoW does not really fit in.
The world seems too happy and dandy if you ask me. Missing the actual seriousness it once had.

~ Daoc, grandfather of PvP and actually neat world for tons of RP,
but it sort of falls short regarding a Dragon Age.

On the other hand,
maybe Rift is a viable canidate for a Dragon Age'ish MMORPG following the mentioned aspects?

It is a WoW-Clone, no doubt about that, but there seems to be more darkness into it.

Rift could possibly be a good candidate for what you are looking for, I just hope you are ready to run around closing rifts 24/7.

I enjoy RIFT. I think I'm just tired of the "WoW-genre", sadly.

Thanks, guys !

Agreed, the WoW-genre killed itself.

I think you guys are right about Rift. I know it is a clone, but it looks like you can do more in the game.

Dragon Age's lore and world and stuff has a nice dark taste, too. Kind of looking for an MMO that doesn't have that "all dandy and happy mood" everywhere. Elves in alienages, dirt kicked in their eyes - Very cool and new approach (probably not truly "new, but an interesting idea).

Honestly, I wish EA/Bioware would have done a DA mmo, even if it would have been a WoW-Clone (just like SWTOR), it would have been worth tons just for the lore. I know DA2 was dumbed down, but there's some great things about it after all.

Okay, enough ramblin' from me

I resubbed RIFT a few days ago. While I've only done PvP so far, that's all I really do, it's been fun. There's also a LOT of new additions to the game's UI/interface/options since the last time I played. Which is impressive, considering these things were already pretty awesome at release.

It isn't an MMO, but if you haven't played Dark Souls(XBOX and PS3) I would highly recommend it.

It lacks story pretty much all the way through, but the gameplay more than makes up for it.

Because there are tons of aspects that look the same. Nothing is really innovating. Although I have to admit, there is a tad of Age of Conan in it .

Videos and what I've seen so far looks very WoW stle. This is the case in Rift too, but Rift/Trion has taken something and added things from other games as well; like the Rift system itself, it resemmbles the Public Quest thing from Warhammer Online.

Don't want to go into detail with SWTOR though, it's a dead horse m8.
