Can't developers come up with any new MMORPG that don't rely on the same fantasy universes over and over?

Is Mythic still sticking by their claim that they should never have to make a daoc 2, because they can just keep making daoc better?

lol, no. I'm just saying there are already dozens of games involving the Star Wars universe. I wish developers were more creative and didn't constantly rely one existing "IPs". Then again, I can see why they do from a business viewpoint... branding works.

I know what you meant, and I agree; I'm sure Warhammer would've never been as popular and died even quicker if it didn't have the Warhammer name attached, for example.

I'd love to see daoc 2 with a similar game structure but different worlds, I think 99% of the people that post here would play it even though we hate Mythic so much.

I don't think I'll buy it. Looks really lame and down the same direction all of the other new mmorpgs are going down. Supposedly over 10 gigs of voice over at least. Who has time or attention for that in a mmo? The space combat is instanced and basically a minigame of railed flight. Imagine exploring endor and then jumping in your ship and flying around the solar system to find others to group or fight with; that won't be possible. Exploring will be so superficial and boring. They won't admit it, but they really are going for the WoW market with an in-depth story/quest line that they can use to hook players, as if they never learned their lesson.

New games these days no longer have the immersion that games like DAoC have. In a way, I'm glad warhammer burned me because I have not bought any of the new mmos that looked any bit promising since, and so far it has proven a good policy. I will wait 6 months after star wars is released before I even consider trying it.

i tried WOW for one week when it came out, realized it sucked, then went back to DAoC. i tried SWG's for a couple of weeks, then again, went running back to DAoC. haven't tried any other MMORPG's other than that. but this new star wars game looks promising. it all depends on what kind of pvp they add to the game. little or no pvp = waste of my time.

I do believe Zero Punctuation made a great review on Force Unleashed II and made comments on why they make more Star Wars games. Sadly, the TOS does not allow me to link but I am sure you can find your way around the net Daamien.
