wondering if there are any guilds recruiting or anything. Don't want to spend time leveling him to 50 and gearing him out if there is no one to play with

There have been people but at this point it's probably best to not worry about guilds.

It looks like there are some handouts from people with crafters/Sc'rs. It shouldn't take long to get levels considering the XP bonuses. Do your Epic quests for XP/rewards and look up some quests on Allakhazam that have decent rewards. Also, look at getting arti's, farming Dscales/glass.
By the time you are 50 you should be well on your way to a decent template. You don't need a guild to group with someone.
I'm probably going to roll a druid in the next couple of weeks...

When i got bd 50 i will start lvling my bot  then my valewalker and do Tailor / sc / alch!

You are going to put in some work. The best thing about dred is
the huge bonus xp and all the camps are open. For all the people
who get 100% of their gear/glass/scales/mls free is limited to a
few that get them fast. I blew through mine in 2 hours.
Do yourself a favor when your not getting groups and farm either
scales or glass off of the starter mobs in the dragon zone or in
oceanus by GOLM.

I don't see a huge xp bonus. I've lvled in dragon zone and coruscating mine and the exp isnt higher than what I've seen on Ywain
