We had staff, though a little short handed, we still had people to keep up with it. Not sure why it was changed, but nope, no weekly submissions, no verification/standards.

It was changed to please the masses when 120px icons and signature images were introduced. The strict quality control was not very popular with the ign crowd, it seems.

Strangely enough it coincided with this board becoming quite quiet...

i'm not sure it was worth the trade off myself. its nice that people can upload their own icons but the loss of quality control sucks. the real problem though is it showed us just how few of us cared about good looking icons. i've gone around and offered to fix up icons people are using and at least half of them tell me they don't care how their icon looks or they never reply at all. so while it really bugs some of us who care about how the icons look it seems like most posters just don't give a damn

maybe its selfish when it seems like so many people don't care, but i wish things were the way they used to be. i'm tired of looking at all the ugly icons when i know i could fix most of them with a couple minutes work.

The good part is that animated icons broke. That was pure, unadulterated win.

i dunno...the way it corrupts pictures if they aren't in gif format now is up there too. jpg is standard for most things and its what most people save pics as by default. the uploader chews those up and spits out an ugly mess and most people never know how to work around it. so we've got a ton of ugly icons that were decent looking before the uploader shat on them. that just might be more win than the breaking of the animated icons.

you'd be one of the few then i guess. everyones bitched about the broken animated icons more than anything else. personally i have no talent for making them so it doesn't affect me much.
