Monday evenings (usually around 1830-1900 Central), there's at least a group if not a BG running around New Frontiers. Try giving a /region shout out in NF. And of course, ask politely. Friday evenings (again starting around 1830 Central) there's usually a public BG forming in NF. Usually led by Aquilonia (Warrior princess).

If you are still looking for a guild, there are several good guilds on Gaheris: Legendary Mercs are definitely one.

Now: What's this "slam tic" nonsense?
As mentioned elsewhere, max your Enhancement and Rejuv (50-50). My tic, Fraydon also has Flex (25) and rest in Shield (13). Add a range macro (/macro range /groundset 1400). When it's under the feet of your target, you should be Just Right. Then practice on blues with the various damage spells. There's shouldn't be much left of one by the time it gets to you. Some (Flex) melee to finish it off. Rinse and repeat. Fray has no problem with a moderate group of orange and yellow, or even a handful of reds.
And reading Rehtul(Kiraniri), reminds me, the tic's uninterruptible is unbelievable against a ranged mob (archer, caster). You'll kill them long before they can kill you. Once again, a tic is a caster that just happens to have fairly decent combat as well.

Regardless of realm and class, the armor you get doing the quests will do very nicely as you level up. Do them in the Tutorial up thru level 10, then let the quests lead you to the subsequent training towns. You will level very quickly. Quest weapons; not so great.
However: The new Pictish Invasion camps http://vnboards.ign.com/daoc_general_board/b5176/115964946/p1/?20 give good weapons. They can also be sold to merchants for good cash. If you have a blue weapon, find an appropriate camp, pull solo Picts from a distance -- be warned, given a chance, they will call for help. You want one far enough the camp won't hear them. Farm until you get the yellow weapon (and shield?) you want.

Welcome back.

Hey gang,

I - too am seeking a new guild that's PvE heavy. Moving to Gaheris.

Are Rangers or Nightshades viable in PvE? for raiding?

A lot of people will tell you which archer is better, but honestly all 3 are very good for solo'n. Archers also have a few raid encounters where they shine (like the named griffon in TG).

Gank classes like the nightshade are the most gimped in pve, mainly due to the restealth and poison reapply timer. The fact that mobs seem to have an overated sixth sense is very frustrating while trying to stealth in pve too. I'm not saying they are useless, but you definitely will have to fiddle with the spec and playstyle and still probably be lagging compared to other classes.

I have a shadowzerker that does well, but he becomes a headache fast when I'm spoiled by so many other classes that can kill so much faster. I still like him though.

@Nocturnal - Ask anyone in LM for an invite; like I said, our doors are always open.

Excellent. Maybe I'll try a bain.

Are there any specific classes that are needed in raids but aren't actively played?

To be honest, most of the player base here have all that is needed for raiding, experience means lots of time played and lots of time played breeds a ton of alts.

So the bad news is that in order to really have a good variety of toons for raiding, you will need about 3+ toons that are needed on raids (tanks, thugs, tics, heal/buff spec healy types, pbaoe, and so on)

The good news is a 50 these days takes about 8 hours of solid playing time. (Which is really not too much at all, 3-4 nights after work and you are there) Then the grind of farming scales, glass, and seals to get yourself ready (again much easier nowadays than it was once upon a time) so if you want to have a few toons that are good for filling in that needed roll, pick 3 you like and get them to 50.

In my opinion, Tics, bains, and thugs are the way to go for a starting out player who wants a decent stable of raid toons that are easy to solo to 50. They are all less reliant on the perfect template (tics and bains don't need dex or casting speed really, it is nice, but they can get away without templating either and still be quite effective, while thugs really just need power pool, dex, hits and casting speed and they are ready to spam their pets at everything they see) So you can make a functional starter template then slowly upgrade it as you raid.

I've made a Theurgist - got to 14 or so. Name is Qetri in game.

I'm thinking of rolling a Friar today.
