I love this idea. I will admit I am not a used game dealer, nor do I usually purchase used games, but to me this idea makes perfect sense. For too long now has Gamestop capitalized on other companies work without compensation. They sale a few games orginally compensate the maker and they proceed to sale recycled games over and over again at a pure profit to themselves. It is about time that a gaming company steps up to the plate and says, "I dont think so". These game production studios deserve their just compensation and it is ovbious Gamestop does not care enough about their customers to do the right thing and give these companies their fair cut.

The irony here is that the 'used' games will be 5 bucks cheaper, followed that up with the extra ten to play online with a non new game, and it suddenly becomes more expensive. As long as my new copy of NCAA will let me access the online stuff for free, I honestly don't care how much they charge the people buying used copies.

i wont buy from Gamestop, just because of this...they really dont offer anything that a local Wal-Mart or other store offers. and the fact that they charge $5 less for a used title game is just sickening.

This is why I like this board. I have posted on other boards about this and got spammed for supporting a clearly greedy and corrupted company. The intelligence of the people on this board is amazing (excluding liquid because he is a Colts fan so clearly he does not fall into that statement ). I completely agree with the above statements, Gamestop buys these new games back for 25-30 dollars (store credit, which probally only cost them 10-15 dollars) and then resales them for 55 dollars. They are making high dollar profits without having to endure any of the cost for designing the games. It is absurd how much they profit off of the gaming companies work.

Basically it comes down to the fact that people today think that they should be able to get things for free. Its like movies, music, computer programs, video games are not developed and marketed by someone. Companies like EA are making it harder and harder to use pirated software (in this case used games) because they are losing money over it. Will they go bankrupt? No. But just because they are a large corporation that does not make it morally right to steal their product because you do not think it is worth the price they charge.

If this is a bad decision then some other company will jump into the void and take EA's customers. The problem is, no other company is going to want to jump into this and give away all the extra profits any more than EA does. In the end those complaining or boycotting EA wont amount to anything since they are most likely the ones that EA gets no revenue from in the first place. Does EA really care if someone who doesn't pay them for their games stop 'buying' their products?

I never have liked the resale business, so I am excited to hear that EA is doing this. Two of my roomates are big gamers and they are ticked off about this, they feel that this is just the gaming industry being greedy and trying to screw the gamers. They are sure that this will backfire on EA and the gaming community will refuse to buy from them, but I am not so sure. I can agree with Juzam that the only ones who will boycott this are the ones who were buying the game used, and they were not giving any of their money to EA anyways so EA really will not lose anything. It might cause some people who were "casual" Madden/NCAA Football players to not buy the newest edition new, but in the end the hardcore fans do not care because we buy the game on opening night brand new, and online play is included for free in that case.

I'd have to say that the posters ability to be objective on here is due more to age than just about anything else. As most of the more frequent posters tend to have actual jobs and families, while the other boards are swamped with the mindless mid-late teen hordes that all seem to spew the same vitriol on demand.

That is very true, but to add to that, I think the age variation on this board makes it so special. Common viewpoints can change from generation to generation, and this board would appear to be made up of people from many different generations; which can help those of us with an open mind see things from a different generations view point. The problem with many gaming message boards is that they are predominately owned by the younger generations who have a very different view point from older generations and usually reality. They talk to people who share only their own flawed opinions and because those people agree tend to take that as a fact. The disagreements that happen on this board is what makes it so special, because it allows for that generation gap to be bridge, but only because we can approach it with the right mind set.
