So. This saturday I went to a veteran car meet with a couple of my friends who own veteran cars (in Norway that means it's 30 years or older)

Basically this is something the veteran car club does every year. They bring out their cars and go for a drive around one of the smaller fjords here, stopping at a small school along the way where they have some food /CAEK/etc before driving on the rest of the way.

I didn't take too many pics, mainly because the weather was shitty as usual :< but also because I don't know how to take good pics of cars

Anyway, here are a few of the pics, CC VERY welcome.

Love that first car, such a shame about the weather.

Back to the HDR thing, the very best HDR shots I have ever seen have been cars, you should seriously think of playing with that first one.

An example of an HDR car I particularly like:

Loads more here:

A lot of them are way over done for my taste but there's the odd gem in there that makes me want to start shooting cars, even though they aren't my thing at all.

I'm looking forward to reading the CnC of our resident car expert for some hints and tips

well, yes perhaps.. The thing is.. why should I HDRify it? If I just want to enchance lines and stuff, thats much better done with a guassian blur thingy. I don't particularly like the HDR effect unless it's used to show detail that's lost either in the highlights or the shadows.. :<

I have been wrong before though :>

Why? For fun

Photography on it's own is great fun, photography combined with various post production techniques is even more fun. I am coming at this as a digital artist (heh, or at least a pretend one), so I'm interested in expanding one art form into another, just to see what can be done.

HDR is still something I'm totally clueless about, but that would be a fantastic image to practice on, so thanks

Hehe, okay

I'm more of a purist really, I process the images to the point where I think it looks like what I actually took a picture of, rather then trying to make a piece of digital art.

Each to his own though, I do think some of the people who are in the digital art side of the scale make wonderful images, but I simply don't have the knack for it myself

To do HDR correctly you need to bracket the shot so 3 to 5 is needed and only one gets you UGH! or that artsy look.

For the bracket you have the middle shot and each bracket from it is half a step either positive or negative (just start at -2 and go to +2 when bracketing). That is the real way of doing HDR and anything else is just cutting corners or being lazy or naive.

Another purist?

What's wrong with just experimenting and having some fun? Do we always have to abide by the "rules"?
