Original Photo:

I felt that the car may look good with some HDR treatment, and being a complete noob to HDR I wanted to experiment a bit. I'm curious to see which of the following versions people prefer...

This is the original image removing most of Raiz's PP:

Simple HDR, no tone mapping:

HDR with various PP and Tone Mapping settings:

You guys all know I'm not a photographer (just like to see your pics), but I actually like the original photo before anything was done to it (though it is a bit dark). I also like the HDR with no tone mapping. Of the other HDR versions, I like hdr3 the best.

I have to agree with lynea here, I prefer the original over any of the others but, I like the one raiz did in B&W the best of any of them posted.
Of course I'm not knocking your efforts, I just dont care that much for the HDR stuff

Since I didn't state my thoughts on it...

I loved Raiztlin's original, it is by far the closest to my own personal taste in photographs, though hdr3 is also one I quite like the results from. I like the muted colours in both.

I was trying to see if I could get that not quite real/painted look and the closest one I think is hdr1 but I'm not keen on it, it looks too blown out. I really do want to learn how to get that effect, as I do really like it when it's done well, I'm starting to get the gist of it now, but I still need some serious practice.

I do think that heavily tone mapped images are almost a completely different medium and can't be compared side by side, it's like comparing an oil painting to a water colour, they're both paintings but the texture, depth and colour are completely different and incomparable against each other.

I've seen quite a lot of negativity towards tone mapped hdr here recently and I think it's a shame, it's still a valid art form and it would be cool if even those who aren't so keen could give crits on the colours, composition etc without just dismissing them as something they plain and simply don't like

Tried a diffrent approach:

BTW Shalis, I don't really like the tonemapped look USUALLY myself, but I admit that sometimes it can be very nice and even cool

That being said, I thought I was on point when I gave CC to Deadcatcus on his. the "lay off the weird sky" was completely justified!

Sorry Shal I don't really like to crit other peoples work very much, and most things are generally to big for me to do it anyway.
My mom always said, if you cant say anything good, then don't say anything, and I guess I carry that around.
I really didn't like anything about any of the ones you did to be blunt, but since its not your normal photos, I don't consider that to harsh.
I do like some HDR work (For instance I don't mind the one that DC did of it), but im not a huge fan of it, so I thought it better not to say anything.
I didn't wanna sound like a turd I guess.

I think he is referring to your "Statue" photo in your last pic thread.
