Hi all, I usually just lurk here and let Sarena do the posting but our oldest had a moment this week and I would like to share.

As some of you are aware, our oldest is very precocious for his age. He is in Pre-K and soon will be 5. He is attending a learning center after hours called Mathnasium (http://www.mathnasium.com/) to allow him to progress in math which he loves.

Well they had a "pi" party (Pizza "pi"s and such) this week and there was a contest to memorize the digits of "pi". Our oldest expressed that he would like to try for the prize. I told him that he would need to do some work to memorize the numbers. He said that was fine. The party was in 2 days and Devin started to memorize the numbers.

Well the party started and they did the contest. He was in a group of about 25 kids trying out for the prize. He was the only kid in that group who's age was in the singe digits. The instructors made him go first and there was a bit of chiding by the kids about Devin ans he stepped before the crowd to recite. The instructor was a little condescending to him asking him if he remembered any numbers.

He as a little miffed (good for him) about the whole thing and said yes that he did. She let him go and he rattled off 16 places of "pi" before stopping. When he said he as done, it was very quiet in the room ... the faces of most of the kids had turned from amusement to a bit of consternation.

After everyone was done, the final result was that he came in 3rd place. 2nd place (by only 2 digits) was a 16 year old junior and first place (by 6 digits) was an 18 year old senior.

I was very proud of him and he won a small prize. He was disappointed that he did not win 1st but I told him too look how old these kids were and how young he was and that he did outstanding and he should be proud of himself as I was of hm.

Anyways , just wanted to share

And then on a side note, he had a bad day yesterday and decided to sass his teachers and his father and myself. That never ends up good and continued to get worse when I said it was bath time. His little brother was picking up his attitude as the day progressed and this is what I ended up with:
