My sister just had her first baby...she was induced at 37 weeks after being on bedrest for 3 weeks due to blood pressure. Well the blood pressure was going up, protein in the urine was not so good, swelling was increasing, so her dr. decided to go ahead and induce. But even after inducing there was no progression in the labor (no more dilating, I think she was just at 2 cm) and the baby's heartrate was dropping, so they went ahead with the c-section. It's a little boy, and he's 17 inches and 4 lbs 13 oz! Perfectly healthy, lungs are good etc. he's just really really little. The doc said it had something to do with the placenta not working as efficiently at the end due to the blood pressure...or something like that, I didn't catch all the details.
I can't wait to see them, although it won't be till this summer.

Wow, 4 pounds - that's really tiny! Well, by the time you get to see him, he probably won't seem so fragile and you'll want to hold and cuddle him. Big congrats! I'm happy to hear that mom and babe are doing fine.

Congratulations, Aunt!
Sounds like your sister had preeclampsia. She's lucky she lasted so close to term.
Your nephew is big. My daughter was only 2 lbs. 1.5 oz.  I look at normal babies and think they're HUGE! LOL

Lynea, my babies were all over eight pounds...my second daughter was almost nine pounds and I'm 5 feet tall exactly! My sister is one inch shorter than I am. I have a hard time forming a mental image of such a teensy thing. I also think she might have had preeclampsia, although she didn't mention it quite like that. Just glad she's doing ok
