We got our son;s evaluation and he is 4th grade. The teacher said that based on his progress he would be ready to take the 5th grade entrance exam in December. So he is still moving at 2 grades a year since we have started this voyage. Hopefully there will be a plateau with him soon which means he could be done high school by 11 and not 9 if he keeps this pace up.

He was very strong in Math and English. He needed more work in reading comprehension at a 4th grade level and Science (except for biology and astronomy where he showed competency). Science is not a surprise since he has only been academically active for less then 2 years and science is not something you can pick up at a rate like math or English.

When he takes his test in December .. the teacher will be able to give and estimate when he will be ready for 6th grade (my bet will be summer). We got him enrolled in piano and he is excelling as well as Spanish, basketball and US geography and presidents to start broadening his base.

We just finished division of fractions this afternoon and will be working on fraction word problems before going back to algebra.

sounds pretty good, BT. I'd be interested to know how things turn out for your son.

I realize now I do not fear death. I fear my daughter will not be free when I die.

Don't drown your son BT. I obviously don't know the full situation, but I was a "gifted" child myself and excelled in my studies and always had the top test scores in my school, all the way through high school. However, I got burn out when I tried to do too much or had too much shoved at me.

If you try to train a horde to do cutting, reining, dressage, jumping, saddle seat, pacing and steeplechasing, what time does he have to be a horse?

And sorry if that didn't come out diplomatic. It sounds as though you're supporting you son, not pushing him, and that's a great thing.

Paily, he's gung ho all on his own. He asks for math work and reads his books all on his own without any prompting. We are actually trying to keep up with HIM. I'm freaking exhausted! Luckily BT has more energy than I do right now so he spearheads all the projects.

We actually have to force the little guy to go outside and just play

My 5 year old understand this... he truly understand the concept, and has demonstrated for my family.

Usually, I'll have him watch some YouTube in the morning, and at night.. to condition him for study practices in the future.

He can read (first sight read - then sounding out words)
He can send text via phone.
He can send emails now.
He knows how to phone others, how to store #'s on a phone. When I got a new cellphone, I was dreading the transfers of numbers... so my son offered to do it for me, and did.
He doesn't know music theory, but knows tonality. He'll say "lets jam" and we'll sit and play guitar. I mean, I'll play guitar, and he'll strum strings.. but the interests is there.
He's learning Japanese, and Spanish via YouTube.
He's actually helping me put together home movies. He's got one idea (totally his, he's never seen the commercial for this, too young) but he wants to hit a golf ball and have it bounce all over the place.. off my van, off my head, off my dog, etc.. and in the end, goes into a hole for a Hole In One shot.
He's got a better golf swing than most adults I know.

Not sure if this qualifies as gifted. I think he is, then again I'm his father.

He loves golf.
Because he loves water, he can tell you the chemical compond for water, as well as ask for it in Spanish and Japanese.
