I remembered a while back about how dramatic the difference in using a ceiling fan versus not was in preventing SIDS deaths and went googling. Found this article, I'm only two pages into it so far and I thought it was interesting enough to link. http://www.newsweek.com/id/162655

You know i read a binky at night helped reduce SIDS but my little man doesnt want it at all.
I've read that too.
My first son used one, didn't have any issues when it was time to give it up either.
PERSONALLY, i was glad he took the pacifier instead of his thumb. You can't take a thumb away

My sister wouldn't take a pacifier. She sucked on her first two fingers instead, and yeah - she ended up with braces.

Funny, that's what I always thought... I can take away the paci, but I can't take away thumbs!!
I just hate seeing a kid that's 3-4 years old or whatever staring stupidly with their thumb in their mouth. I know it's just something they got used to, but it just SEEMS to make them look worse than it probably is.

We are trying to break our youngest of her thumb sucking. My older two never wanted thumbs or pacifiers, but my youngest...thumb ONLY. She doesn't suck it all the time...just when very tired (and not always then) or very stressed/frustrated. It's slow going.
But on another note, my eldest never sucked anything and her teeth are beautiful and straight. My middle child never sucked anything and her teeth are awful and she'll most likely need braces. Who knows what will happen with my youngest!

We've been really blessed with Aime. She's never been orally fixated on anything so never wanted a pacifier or her thumb. The only time she sticks her fingers in her mouth is when she cries and that's not very often. I'm hoping her teeth are nice and straight

Forget wrapping it aorund their neck, babies have been known to choke or be smothered to death when they can't spit out their binkies.
Geeez.....
Neither of my babies have had a binky problem. My daughter used one and then stopped and my son never was interested and sleeps just fine without one.
